Our Story

The story of NBCD begins in 1989, when life science entrepreneur Dr. Claus Christiansen, together with his wife Dr. Bente Juel Riis, founded Osteometer A/S. Both had a long scientific background in bone disease, and the company was founded to develop and produce medical equipment for measuring bone mineral density.

In 1991, Osteometer expanded with a new division – a laboratory to develop biochemical diagnostic assays for bone diseases. In 1996, the medical equipment division was sold off, and the laboratory division became an independent company later to become Nordic Bioscience.

In 2006, a new division called Nordic Bioscience Clinical Development A/S was formed to provide clinical trial services. Initially intended to support in-house development projects, the unit quickly proved more than capable of acting as an external full-service clinical CRO and collaborations with several pharma and biotech companies with drug candidates in clinical phases I, II and III were established. This division eventually became NBCD A/S.

During the next 14 years, NBCD successfully managed all aspects of several clinical trials, enrolling more than 15.000 subjects worldwide, primarily within musculoskeletal indications such as osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.

In 2020, NBCD A/S was carved out from Nordic Bioscience as an independent entity serving life science clients primarily within osteoarthritis. NBCD is an integral part of the Sanos Group, a Full Circle Clinical Research and Development Organization.
